What gets processed
PDFs, text, HTML, RTF, DOCX/PPTX/XLSX text layers, PST/MBOX/EML/EMLX email sources, Maildir-style ZIP backups, images, audio/video, and unknown files. Live email can also be imported read-only through IMAP or provider APIs. Unsupported/media files are still cataloged rather than discarded.
Conservative triage
AI Legal never automatically deletes a photo or document merely because it looks irrelevant. It tags system junk, exact duplicates, unsupported binaries, OCR-needed images, and transcription-needed media so you can review them later.

Universal mailbox intake: upload PST/MBOX/EML/EMLX through Bulk Import, or connect a live mailbox. Live imports are read-only and preserve messages as source-linked EML records.

OAuth connections
For commercial Gmail and Microsoft 365/Outlook.com connections, OAuth is preferred. These buttons become active after the corresponding OAuth application credentials are configured on AI Legal.
Supported intake families
Mailbox files: PST, MBOX/MBX, EML, EMLX, and Maildir-style messages inside ZIP backups.
Live IMAP: Yahoo, AOL, iCloud, Gmail app-password mode, and standards-based private/business mail servers.
Provider APIs: Gmail API and Microsoft Graph through OAuth when commercial app credentials are configured.
Attachments: extracted automatically, deduplicated, and routed to normal text extraction/OCR only when needed.
AI Legal uses read-only mailbox access. The importer does not delete, move, expunge, or send messages.

How this works
The attorney gets a secure counsel portal link for the single matter you choose. The token is stored only as a cryptographic hash and is shown to you once.
For compatible legal or AI software, you can also create a separate read-only API/MCP key tied to the same grant. That key can see only the granted matter and automatically stops working if you revoke the grant or turn off the master switch.
Accessing information remotely still transmits the information needed to display or analyze it. What stays under your control is the master repository: no bulk handoff or transfer of ownership is required.
Future commercial mode is staged, not forced on.
The workspace/client foundation remains in the database for a future multi-firm product. Your current installation stays owner-controlled unless you deliberately expand it later.

AI Legal exists to preserve, organize, process, connect, and analyze a complete evidentiary record so people and AI systems can understand what happened, why it matters, and what the underlying evidence actually supports. Original evidence remains the source of truth, and AI analysis must test competing explanations rather than force a predetermined conclusion.

Layer 2 — Understanding
Extracts document summaries, people/entities, material statements, dates and timeline events with page-level provenance.

Builds the chronology, procedural history, issue map, positions, corroboration, contrary evidence and unresolved questions.

Tests propositions and apparent inconsistencies against supporting and contrary evidence, alternatives, gaps and materiality.

Use Incremental Update after adding evidence. It analyzes new/changed page hashes first, then Layers 3–4 globally reconcile the story before export. Full Rebuild rereads every processed source page.
When you export, the server will build the ZIP in the background and this line will show progress until the download starts.
